What people do when they are not working has been greatly affected by innovations in information and communication technologies. Leisure activities have changed so much that it is hard to imagine what else one could be doing without social media, witho ut phones, without our computers. we derive a lot of pleasure from charting, browsing for just about anything we can imagine playing games on our devices without having to look for a partner, watching a friend or family member living thousands of kilometers away having dinner or dancing a't a party, and so many other activities of this kind. Social media p'latforms offer countless possibilities for leisure. Although in Cameroon about 50% of the population do not have access to these devices and applications, they no longer spend time running in the fields or jurrping rope or creating toys to play with either. They stay indoors and interact less with others in the community, Inside games have probably changed the most. When I was young, playing cards and board games in the evenings were common in our household. Although these are still part of our leisure activities today, interest in the m has declined. Reading was common to. Books incited curiosity about the times and the lives of people. Those who could not read listened to the older ones read and tell stories. Dolls held a place in girls' lives. We also learnt to plait and make things with our hands. In remote areas, dolls were made from grass, which had many tiny roots that were plaited as hair. Outdoors, jumping rope was one of our favourite summer activities. Hopscotch was another. Both took us. We didn't know that at the time, we just thought it was fun and tried to see how many jumps we could make with our rope before missing. We did this both at home and at school. These games and leisure activities gave us the exercise that is so talked about today, but they were considered common place back then. Play time was so much fun; you sometimes didn't realize you were learning in the process, as well as gaining a healthy start to your life. They were all pretty simple mple things, but they provided us with a strong background, emotionally and physically, to go on and do the things we needed to do as adults. I.
